Creating a New Assignment
A few days before an assignment is due, make sure to create the inbox for the assignment on Turnitin so students can begin submitting. Click this button in the top right-hand corner:
Then you’ll see the page where you can add a new assignment. The only fields you have to complete are the Title, Point Value (60 points for outlines), Start Date, and Due Date. (Post Date doesn’t really matter, just set it to one day after the Due Date).
I recommend exploring the Optional settings link if you’re interested in the specifics that you can change about assignment inboxes. A lot of them are not important to APWH and thus should not be changed, but the two that I would recommend learning about are below.
Students will always submit late work. It’s inevitable. You could promise everyone cold, hard cash for getting work in on time and they still would miss the deadline. Allowing submissions after the due date saves you a headache later, since you can grade assignments like you normally would without having to hunt down random paper copies they leave on the desk. Plus, you’ll still be able to see if a student submits late work: The submission date will be in red.
The next section reviews how to use rubrics, but it’s convenient to know that you can select them from here.
